Mia Goth Files for Divorce From Shia LaBeouf After a July 2025 Split

What the Mia Goth Shia LaBeouf divorce petition asks for

California divorce papers are mostly checkboxes. Read them closely, though, and you can see what each person wants. Goth’s petition makes four main requests.

Custody of their daughter

People reported that Goth asked for sole legal and physical custody of their 4-year-old. The AP story, carried by NBC News, called it primary custody. Either way, she wants LaBeouf to have visitation.

Quick explainer. Legal custody covers the big decisions, like school and medical care, while physical custody is about where a child lives day to day. And a request isn’t a ruling. A judge decides what’s in the child’s best interest.

No spousal support for either side

She asked the court to deny spousal support to both of them, and USA Today reported she wants each side to cover its own lawyers.

Why the separation date matters

The petition gives July 28, 2025, as the day they split. That date isn’t a formality. In California it can affect how property earned afterward is treated.

The reason she gave

It’s the standard no-fault reason used in most U.S. divorces, and it doesn’t point to any one event.

A rough year before the filing

In February 2026 a source told People the relationship “has always been complicated” and that Goth had encouraged LaBeouf to move out. That’s a single unnamed source, so treat it as a report, not a fact.

LaBeouf moved to New Orleans after the split. He was arrested there in February 2026 after an alleged bar fight during Mardi Gras.

In June he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery. People reported two years’ probation plus alcohol rehab and anger-management classes.

The FKA twigs settlement that same week

In the same week, FKA twigs filed a notice of settlement and asked to dismiss her second lawsuit against LaBeouf, the Los Angeles Times reported. She’d sued in March over a nondisclosure agreement, and the paper said the NDA terms were declared “terminated and void”.

We’d be careful reading anything into the timing. Nothing on record connects the two filings, and neither side has said they’re related.

What happens next

LaBeouf hasn’t responded publicly, and no court date has been reported. California also requires at least six months from service before a divorce can be final, so the earliest this could wrap up is spring 2027.

Were they ever legally married?

Here’s where a lot of people get confused, and honestly the record doesn’t help. On October 10, 2016, the two had a Las Vegas ceremony led by an Elvis impersonator.

Two days later, Clark County said it had no marriage license on file and called it a commitment ceremony. LaBeouf told Ellen DeGeneres that same month, “We’re proud of it. It was love”.

His rep said in 2018 that they’d “filed for divorce”. Now Goth has filed a petition for dissolution of marriage, and AP describes them as married in 2016.

So were they? No outlet has reported when, or whether, a valid license was issued later. A dissolution petition suggests the court sees a legal marriage, but that detail just isn’t public yet.

Look at the gaps. Over about 13 years they split, got back together and split again. This is the first filing with a custody request in it, which is why it feels more final.

Their daughter

Their daughter was born in March 2022. They didn’t announce it then, and LaBeouf first mentioned her publicly that August.

In a letter Variety published, he wrote about “a little girl” who was five months old and “just beginning to develop the last half of her laugh”.

Goth talked to Elle about motherhood in October 2025, calling it a “psychedelic experience” and her daughter “the greatest gift of my life,” People reported.

Her career, meanwhile, is in great shape. X and Pearl made Goth a horror star, and she played Elizabeth in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein in 2025.

She’s in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey this year and is set to play the villain in the Star Wars film Starfighter in 2027. She turned 33 on October 25.
